Soft Tissue Injuries
Cobb County Workers’ Comp Attorneys
Workplace injuries of all types can take you off your feet, literally, and make completing regular job functions without pain impossible. Even soft tissue injuries, which many people falsely assume to be minor or manageable, can be completely disabling while the wound heals. Due to this false notion that a soft tissue injury is “not a big deal,” insurance companies and employers may wrongly deny workers’ compensation claims related to them.
If you suffered a soft tissue injury while on-the-job and have since been denied any sort of compensation or benefits, allow Herbert Chestnut & Associates to assist you. We are AV® Preeminent™ Rated by Martindale-Hubbell® and Attorney Chestnut has been given the Workers’ Compensation Attorney of the Year award by the Consumer Business Review on three separate occasions. Causes of Soft Tissue Injuries
A soft tissue injury is one that only or primarily affects a muscle, tendon, or ligament. Bone fractures, lacerations, and internal organ damage are typically not associated with a soft tissue injury but this does not guarantee that they will be any less painful or severe. A mild soft tissue injury could be alleviated within a few hours with an ice pack but serious forms can be excruciating and lead to health complications if total recuperation is not encouraged.
The two main forms of soft tissue injuries and their causes are:
- Acute: Pressure, force, or trauma is applied all at once to a singular point in the body; acute injuries can be devastating and actually tear ligaments or separate muscle from bone.
- Overuse: As the name implies, overuse injuries are caused over an extended period of time, often due to exertion, lifting, and continual physical activity. Subtle pain in a joint may be indicative of an overuse injury that is worsening.
Due to the nature of soft tissue injuries, sustaining one while at work is common but rarely reported. Employees may be wrongly informed that sprains or strains are not serious enough to necessitate time off work or workers’ compensation.
Workers who may be more susceptible to soft tissue injuries are:
- Retail workers who put away stock
- Police officers who patrol on foot
- Construction workers dealing with heavy equipment
- Athletes, especially baseball pitchers
